Overview

The sculptures Torso di Ikaro and Ikaria, created by master Igor Mitoraj, represent an original synthesis of classical mythology and contemporary artistic language. Strategically placed in Piazza Vittorio Veneto, in the heart of the historic centre of Lajatico - the birthplace of Andrea Bocelli - the works blend harmoniously with their surroundings, establishing a dialogue with visitors. They invite us to reflect on the myth of Ikaro and its resonances in today's world, but above all on the eternal tension between aspiration and fall, between the desire for freedom and the limits imposed by the human condition. Ikaria, the female counterpart of Ikaro conceived by the artist, is presented as an opposite and at the same time complementary figure, carrying with her the marks of dreams and wounds, of beauty and loss, thus becoming a mirror of the fragilities and hopes of our time.
