Francesco Salvi's are cathedrals of cars that are woven with Pop textures thanks to graffiti sprayed on the walls of an imaginary city
From 3 August to 9 September 2018, the Contini Art Gallery in Cortina d'Ampezzo is hosting a solo exhibition by Francesco Salvi entitled C'è da spostare una macchina. Everyone knows him as a comedian, actor, singer, voice actor and writer. In reality, Francesco Salvi, born in Luino in 1953, is also a painter. In fact, drawing and painting were his first passions. After graduating in Architecture, the 1970s were the turning point towards the world of cabaret, cinema, television and music. It is impossible not to remember C'è da spostare una macchina, a song that surely prophesied and inspired his pictorial production to come. This is clear from the title, of the same name, of this exhibition, as well as from the subjects of the works on display: a horror vacui of cars - and more - stacked, overlapping or simply arranged according to a random principle on a two-dimensional surface. The bright colours, as well as the immediate and naive language make one think of Pop Art and Dadaism, all seasoned with a hint of contemptuous irony. The speed and impetus that characterise the execution of his works are well associated with the very concept of the machine in an almost Marinettian sense, also becoming the pivot around which his entire poetics is developed. Salvi's paintings, in fact, could be defined as snapshots of our times, where chaos and restlessness allow us to experience daily urban misadventures, evoked by titles such as Fuga dalla città assediata.
