12 April - 12 July 2003
Overview
At Palazzo Ducale and public spaces in the historic center of Venice, a major exhibition dedicated to Fernando Botero
In Venice, within the narrow streets and along the edges of the Grand Canal, in bustling squares and areas typically thronged by tourists, stand Fernando Botero's colossal and unwieldy creations. Following the initial showcase in Florence four years ago, the renowned artist's substantial bronze sculptures and twenty-five recent paintings are now on display in the enchanting city of Venice. This undertaking presents a comprehensive collection of works by a contemporary artist whose pieces are featured in fifty museums worldwide, commanding significant value, and supported by an extensive body of literature. The exhibition includes twenty-five expansive paintings exhibited in the Piovego Hall within the Doge's Palace. These paintings portray individuals, both men and women, engaged in various settings such as picnics, beach outings, bullfights, and dance halls. Alongside the paintings, the exhibition also includes twenty large bronze sculptures created between 1987 and the present day, encompassing a range of subjects from human figures to animals.
